Tutto ciò, in pieno stile californiano.

[en]When I read this news in Decanter it struck me immediately. The producer and negociant Philippe Raoux will be opening on 1st March 2007 an innovative wine tourism centre in Californian-style in the heard of the Bordeaux region. The name of this place, La Winery. With futuristic interior design including an abundant use of glass to create light effects and an “I’m under a roof but still feel like in the middle of a vineyard feeling”, the centre comprises a restaurant, 6 picnic areas, a wine shop with around 16,000 lables – French and not – guided wine tastings and display of artworks too.

All this, in total Californian style, or so they say. It would therefore appear that France is opening up to the New World’s strategies. I repeat, it would appear, because the website, strangely enough, is seulement en Français. Try to pay a visiti to E. & J. Gallo’s website, for instance, to see an example from a competitor: on the top, right hand corner of the homepage you won’t miss the possibility to choose between 18 versions of the same website, according to language and country of origin…

I believe that when you choose to adopt a follower market strategy, the least you could do is match all of the characteristics of the leaders’ communication. Or else change positioning, differentiating yours as a French wine centre, extremely innovative, but without mentioning Californian style… [/en]
